We all know what Twitter is and what it does; it has exploded into popular culture. Twitter is absolutely everywhere these days and has become difficult to avoid. Networking sites like, Twitter and Facebook, have truly changed the way people communicate over the internet, allowing news and information to be instantaneous, constantly changing, and personalized. With sites like Twitter, we now can interact and contact just about anyone, including Al Gore, CNN, Oprah, or even, Lebron James, just to name a few. Initially, many web developers thought Twitter was too simple, but it is its simplicity that makes it so powerful, because it can be used by anyone and everyone.

Twitter gives us more power to interact with the world, and it is an incredible way to share the most up-to-date news and information, which is why it is so popular, even among web developers. However, Twitter is not perfect, and this is why Twitter applications have become so popular, because they tweak Twitter to make it that much better. Twitter applications are merely websites which complement Twitter and improve its usability. Here is a list of 20 Twitter applications, which I have encountered on the internet that I find useful. Please feel free to comment or contribute more applications to expand this list! Enjoy!

How ’bout twurn.com for figuring out whose turn it is to make the coffee

umm.. you forgot the other half of the article.. you know, the part where you explain *why* each of your choices are necessary and *what* each of those apps do.

you gave us a list of links and screenshots; nothing more – that doesn’t do anyone who isn’t a twitterer any good if they were interested initially.

Good point, but I did put a link to each of them, and I think the names of each of the applications are self-explanatory. Plus, everyone is free to investigate what each one does, and I think finding out for yourself is half the fun!

    Thanks for the comment!

I’m with lowell on this one. Not everyone has the time to go and research 20 different apps just to find out what they do. And you couldn’t be farther from mistaken when you say the names are self explanatory. Twoak? Twuffer? These names mean nothing without some explanation.

I commend you on a good start, but you really need to explain for your visitors what each service is and why you think it’s useful for the average person. Otherwise you just have a link page to build hits.

Thanks ChimericDream and Lowell. Points are well taken. I did not want to be renundant and give extra information that I thought people would not read, when to me it appeared obvious. Next time, I will give more info when more info is needed. Thanks for the advice! We want to keep improving our site!

I just created a new twitter app where you can translate your tweets into any one of 40 languages and post automatically and immediately.

You can also review your past translations as an excellent way of learning new words, phrases and just to keep track of your foreign language tweets.

    Great post… good suggestions…thanks!

Retweetist looked intriguing unfortunately, the twitter account they list on their site is a suspended Twitter account.
