4 Mobile Apps Every Freelance Web Designer Should Have

November 13th, 2012 by Rachel Sanders

You’re probably already pretty digitally connected as a freelance web designer. Still, your collection of mobile apps may be lacking. There are a number of apps that can make your job as a freelancer easier and help you become more effective at what you do. If you want to step up your game, make sure you have these four apps downloaded on your smartphone before you start the daily grind tomorrow:

Zoho Invoice

As a freelancer, it’s your job to send invoices to your clients to make sure you get paid on time. You can’t always depend on them to keep track of the hours you work and how much they owe you. Invoicing can definitely be a drag on top of everything else you have to do, though. Cloud software like Zoho can make keeping track of your invoices, projects, and payments easier. The Zoho Invoice app lets you manage and send invoices right from your Android smartphone or iPhone.

CSS Reference

Even the most advanced designers and developers struggle with CSS every once in a while. CSS Reference is an app for Android devices that helps you quickly and easily brush up on CSS when you need to. If you’re an iPhone owner, you may want to download a similar app called CSS Quick Reference. There are also a number of other reference apps you may want to check out to help you with things like jQuery, PHP, and HTML5. Equipping yourself with mobile apps that will help you design better websites can definitely be a smart move.

Remember the Milk

Keeping track of your projects and the rest of your life can be a challenge when you freelance for a living. If you’re like most freelancers, you probably work crazy hours and could use some help managing your life. Remember the Milk is a simple yet incredibly useful app that lets you create digital to-do lists from your phone. Remember the Milk syncs up with your Google Calendar to make it even easier to remember what’s on your agenda. Remember the Milk is available for Android, iOS, and Blackberry devices.

Adobe Edge Inspect

If you design mobile sites, you’ll LOVE this app. It allows you to check out what a website you’re designing on your computer looks like on your phone or tablet with the click of a few buttons. You have to download Adobe Edge Inspect on your computer and your mobile device to get it to work, but it’s definitely worth the effort. Since pretty much everyone is still getting the hang of mobile web design, this app is a godsend.

So, check out the four apps listed above, and do whatever else you can to simplify and optimize your life as a freelancer!
