Texture is one of those graphic elements that, if used correctly, can really make a good design great or a great design exceptional. Texture is a way to truly invoke the senses and make your design come to life, and it is actually used in all of our design work whether we know it or not. Texture can be actually or visual; however, if done correctly, the visual texture can be just as powerful as the real thing. With actual texture, we can move our fingers across a page and actually feel the smoothness, roughness, or silkiness of the texture itself.

I personally visit the blog numerous times a day as a great resource for up-to-date information in web design and development. For those one or two developers who are not familiar with The Smashing Magazine blog, it is one of the most popular web design and development blogs online, and it is well known for great articles, tutorials, and inspirational lists. Now, Smashing Magazine took all of there great ideas from the blog, and combined into The Smashing Book that has just about everything you need to know to create smashingly amazing websites.
